Hotwell Boiler Feed Tanks Boiler hotwell tanks are the source of high heat losses and on-going maintenance. The GMS hotwell is a fully lined tank virtually maintenance free. Manufactured from either stainless steel or carbon steel, the units can be supplied ready for site insulation or fully insulated at our factory. Materials All wetted parts are manufactured from quality British Standard steel plate and the internal surface is coated with a Water Research Council approved epoxy lining system offering good protection against internal corrosion. Stainless Steel hotwells can be supplied, but are subject to corrosion if high concentrates of Chlorides are present in the system. Design The HW hotwell is manufactured to suit the individual customers needs. Therefore a detailed drawing is produced to enable the customer to mark up his connection requirements (this is most helpful when the unit is a replacement and ensures pipework alteration is kept to a minimum) A test certificate is issued on completion along with a report on the soundness of the internal coating. Bracing The hotwell is internally stiffened using angle irons rested on mounting plates and welded to the wall of the hotwell. The unit is mounted on a number of channel irons to give a 100 mm lift and creates an air space under the tank. Vent Pipe The vent pipe should be fully vertical if possible. If this is not possible then non-vertical sections must be minimised and arranged so that condensate can freely run down to the vessel. NEVER FIT ANY ISOLATION OR NON-RETURN VALVES, OR OTHER OBSTRUCTION IN THE VENT PIPE. Vent Head The vent pipe may be terminated in a suitable vent header. This will reduce discharge velocity and minimise entrained water vapour, giving safety and environmental benefits. The vent header's drain connection should be piped to a suitable drain point to prevent damage to building fabric by hot condensate.
